In a new Target Gallery exhibition, artists were challenged to express themselves in a work of art that is no larger than five inches in any direction. 5x5(x5)—on view Saturday, December 6, 2014 through Sunday, January 18, 2015—is an all-media exhibition featuring little works that make a big impact.

“As a grouping, the artwork on view in this exhibition is a study in modernity across many voices,” said Kayleigh Bryant-Greenwell, guest juror for 5x5(x5). “These small works present an array of contexts. Some artists focused heavily on technique and other delved into contemporary issues, touching upon issues of race and sexuality. Pop culture, figurative drawings, landscapes, still-lifes, and abstraction collide.”

As artists were restricted only by size, not by medium, subject, or content, the featured work reflects a diverse cross-section of today’s zeitgeist, or spirit of our time.
