Speeding U-Haul Involved In Alexandria Pursuit: Police

Charges are pending against a U-Haul driver that led state police on a chase in Alexandria early Monday.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — Charges are pending against a U-Haul driver that led Virginia State Police on a chase through Alexandria early Monday.

Around 2:30 a.m., state police had tried to pull over a U-Haul going 95 mph in a 55 mph zone on I-395 in Alexandria. Police say the driver would not stop and instead continued to Exit 3 to Duke Street.

According to police, the driver drove recklessly and sped at times through Alexandria before returning to I-395. The U-Haul ended up stopping on a shoulder on I-395 near the Alexandria and Fairfax County line.

Police say the driver did not follow commands to leave the vehicle, but female and juvenile passengers exited the vehicle within a few minutes. State police tried to get the driver to leave the vehicle and ultimately detained the driver.

There were no reported injuries from the pursuit, but the driver went to the hospital for an evaluation.

The driver has not identified, as charges are pending. The pursuit continues to be investigated by state police.
