ALEXANDRIA, VA — A Virginia state trooper was nearly hit by a stolen vehicle in Old Town Alexandria Saturday, according to state police.

The incident happened around 11 a.m. Saturday as a state trooper located a stolen silver Kia Optima on the side of Franklin Street in Alexandria. The state trooper confirmed the license plate matched the stolen vehicle from Washington, D.C. police were searching for.

When the state trooper exited his vehicle and ordered the Kia driver and passenger to leave the vehicle, police say the driver drove toward the cop. The state trooper jumped out of the way to avoid being hit, but the Kia hit the trooper's patrol vehicle with a K9 inside. The Kia then fled the scene and ran over a street sign when turning on S. Washington Street.
