Virginia gave wins to Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. How did Alexandria vote?

ALEXANDRIA, VA -- Super Tuesday results offered big wins for Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump, each winning seven states, including Virginia.

How did Alexandria vote on Super Tuesday? The City came out big for Clinton, giving her 69.49 percent of the vote, higher than the state overall at 64 percent. Here's the breakdown from the elections office:

Democratic Primary

With 100 percent of the City's 28 precincts reporting, in the Democratic Primary here are the unofficial results from the Virginia Department of Elections:

  • Hillary Clinton: 16,281 votes or 69.49 percent
  • Bernie Sanders: 7,008 votes or 29.91 percent
  • Martin O'Malley: 141 votes or .60 percent

Clinton won the state by 64.30 percent or 503,359 votes.

On the Republican side, Alexandrians did not have Trump fever and instead went for Marco Rubio, giving him 46 percent of their votes; statewide, Rubio received 31.98 percent, coming in a close second to Trump's nearly 35 percent. In Alexandria, Trump only received 18.81 percent of the vote. John Kasich did well in Alexandria, coming in second behind Rubio, with 23.29 percent of the vote.

Republican Primary

With all of Alexandria's 28 precincts reporting, in the Republican Primary, here's the breakdown:

  • Marco Rubio: 6,338 votes or 46.83 percent
  • John Kasich: 3,152 votes or 23.29 percent
  • Donald Trump: 2,546 or 18.81 percent
  • Ted Cruz: 1,036 or 7.65 percent
  • Ben Carson: 272 or 2.01 percent

Statewide, Donald Trump won Virginia with 34.82 percent, with Marco Rubio coming in a close second at 31.98 percent.
