A suspect hit three police cars Friday morning during a chase that ended on Eisenhower Avenue in Alexandria, according to Lucy Caldwell, public information officer for Fairfax County Police.

The suspect, a man who is now in custody, hit a Virginia State Police car and two Fairfax County Police cars before he was apprehended in Alexandria, Caldwell said.

The chase started at 10:41 a.m. Friday about nine miles away, in the Springfield area, after an attempted traffic stop, Caldwell said. Police tried to pull the suspect over at Hunter Village Drive and Old Keene Mill Road, near St. Bernadette Catholic Church. Hunter Village Drive runs alongside Hunter Village Park.

The chase led police onto Interstate 95 to 495 and into Alexandria, where it ended at 10:57 a.m. in a dead end in the 1500 block of Eisenhower Avenue, Caldwell said.

The suspect is facing multiples charges, including two charges of assault on an officer, Caldwell said.

Virginia State Police assisted in the incident, according to VSP spokeswoman Corinne Geller; the Alexandria Police Department assisted as well, according to a post to social media by the police department.

Some police departments have a policy to not chase drivers under certain circumstances, so as not to endanger the general public. It’s uncertain if Friday’s incident was a high-speed chase or what the initial traffic violation was that prompted police to attempt to pull over the suspect.
