Child Protective Services Has Toddler Left Alone In Alexandria: Police

ALEXANDRIA, VA — After a toddler was abandoned Wednesday night, Child Protective Services has the child in custody and is speaking to family members with Alexandria Police.

The toddler was left alone around 9:45 p.m. Wednesday at 8 S. Van Dorn St. Police had responded to a call from witnesses who saw a man drop off the young child. The girl, believed to be between 1 and 2 years old, was dressed in warm clothing and appeared to be in good health. The girl is safe and in the care of Child Protective Services.

Police have potential video footage of the vehicle that dropped the child off and are working to identify the car's owner. Detectives and Child Protective Services are meeting with family members, who are helping with the investigation.

Child Protective Services did not comment further on the investigation due to its confidential nature.
