Truck Hits Power Lines, Sparks Fire Behind Alexandria Shopping Center

ALEXANDRIA, VA — A tractor-trailer making a delivery to an Alexandria grocery store struck electrical lines Tuesday, sparking a fire that spread to several dumpsters and a vehicle, according to the Alexandria Fire Department.

The truck was making a delivery to Harris Teeter at Foxchase Shopping Center when it accidentally struck an electrical service drop, pulling energized lines away from the building.

The damaged lines began arcing and ignited nearby materials, according to the fire department. Flames spread to multiple dumpsters, a vehicle and wooden fencing.

Firefighters had to wait about an hour to begin suppression efforts while the power company de-energized the lines.

No injuries were reported, and no buildings sustained fire damage.

Fire officials determined the blaze was accidental.
