U.S. Secretary of Veterans Affairs to keynote at Business Philanthropy Summit
The Summit's theme is Invest in our Community, a call to serve. Veterans are volunteers, business people, and are in need of services.

Volunteer Alexandria announced today that U.S. Secretary of Veterans Affairs Robert A. McDonald will keynote the 18th Annual Business Philanthropy Summit on Tuesday, May 3. “We are delighted that Secretary McDonald is joining us for the Summit,” said Marion Brunken, Executive Director of Volunteer Alexandria. “As veterans play a vital role in our community as both volunteers and members of the business community, his participation is an honor.”
Since his graduation from West Point, McDonald has been committed to improving lives of others. Recognized for his work in the U.S Army and as former Chairman, President, and CEO of The Procter & Gamble Company, McDonald was sworn in as Secretary of Veterans Affairs in July 2014. He continues to be committed to collaborative relationships across the federal government, across state and local government, and with both nonprofit and for-profit organizations. “Each year we bring the business community and nonprofits together to celebrate successful collaborations,” said Board President Cyndi Lake. “At Volunteer Alexandria, we are proud to help make Alexandria even better and stronger.”
The summit is a breakfast event that brings together businesses and nonprofit organizations to discuss community needs and celebrate local philanthropy. The event will be held on May 3 from 7:30-9:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church, 2932 King Street in Alexandria. Tickets are $35 and can be purchased online at https://squareup.com/market/volunteer-alexandria/business-philanthropy-s...
