Virginia Railway Express Train Crashes In Alexandria: Police

A train hit a work vehicle on the tracks, but no injuries were reported.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — A Virginia Railway Express was involved in a crash with a vehicle on the train tracks Wednesday morning in Alexandria.

Alexandria Police responded to the crash in the 4100 block of Wheeler Avenue, which is between the Backlick Road and Alexandria stations on the Manassas line. Media reports indicate a work vehicle was struck. There were no reported injuries, and the train did not derail.

The 328 train involved in the crash had passengers. VRE reported delays as the train was inspected. Other trains were rerouted at restricted speeds around the affected train. VRE reported the crash on social media at 7:32 a.m. As of 8:44 a.m., the 328 train was traveling again.
