What's Open, Closed For 2023 Election, Veterans Day In Alexandria

During the general election, there will be various schedule changes for services in Alexandria.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — The second week of November brings two observed holidays in the City of Alexandria: Election Day on Tuesday, Nov. 7 and Veterans Day observed on Friday, Nov. 10. City of Alexandria government offices will be open on Election Day but not Veterans Day observed.

On Election Day, polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. as City of Alexandria voters cast ballots for Virginia House and Senate races. Alexandria City Public Schools: Closed for students on Nov. 7 for a staff professional learning day. Nov. 10 will be a normal school day.

Animal Welfare League of Alexandria: Normal hours on Nov. 7 and weekend hours on Nov. 10 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Open at noon for adoptions, found animals, and rehoming. For animal emergencies or wildlife concerns, call 703-746-4444.

Courts: On Nov. 7 and 10, Alexandria Circuit Court, Clerk of Circuit Court, General District Court, Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court, and Court Service Unit will be closed.

DASH Bus: Normal operations on Nov. 7, and administrative offices will be closed on Nov. 10. Visit dashbus.com for more information.

DMV: Virginia DMV locations are closed on Nov. 7 and 10. Many DMV services are available online at dmv.virginia.gov.

Health department: The Alexandria City Health Department, Flora Krause Casey Pharmacy, and Alexandria Health Department Teen Wellness Center at Alexandria City High School are closed on Nov. 7 and 10.

Historic Alexandria facilities: All city museums will be closed, except for the Alexandria Archaeology Museum (open 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.) and Gadsby’s Tavern Museum (open 1 p.m.-5 p.m.) on Nov. 7. Normal hours will happen on Nov. 10. For more information, visit alexandriava.gov/Historic.

Hotlines: All emergency hotlines operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, including the Child Protective Services hotline at 703-746-5800; the Domestic Violence hotline at 703-746-4911; the Emergency Mental Health Services or substance use crisis hotline at 703-746-3401; the Adult Protective Services hotline at 703-746-5778 or 988; and the Sexual Assault Hotline at 703-683-7273.

Impound lot: Normal operations on Nov. 7 and closed on Nov. 10. The impound facility is closed on weekends and city holidays. Fees accrue on weekends but not holidays.

Metro: Metrorail operates on a Saturday holiday schedule on Nov. 10, and Metrobus will have a Saturday supplemental schedule. See timetables for more information.

Parking: On Nov. 7, normal parking restrictions will be enforced, and many polling places will have reserved parking spaces for voters. On Nov. 10, the Alexandria Police Department will suspend enforcement of parking restrictions at metered spaces and residential permit parking districts. This does not include parking in any normally prohibited location and temporary no-parking signs will be enforced.

Recreation, nature and art centers: Charles Houston, Chinquapin, and Patrick Henry Recreation Centers will be open for normal operations on Nov. 7, and all other city recreation centers will be closed for normal operations and open to registered voters assigned to those polling places. Recreation programs, including open gym and out-of-school time, may not be offered. On. Nov. 10, Charles Houston, Chinquapin, and Patrick Henry Recreation Centers will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and all other City recreation centers will be closed. The Torpedo Factory Art Center will be open for normal hours on both days.

Trash and recycling: During the week of Nov. 7, residential trash, yard waste, recycling, and curbside food waste will be collected on the normal collection schedule, and the Household Hazardous Waste & Electronics Collection Center will be open on a normal schedule.
