What's Open, Closed For Election Day 2025 Around Alexandria

Select services will be closed or adjusted for Election Day in Alexandria as voters head to cast their votes in state and local races.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — As City of Alexandria voters head to the polls to cast their votes in local and state elections Tuesday, some services will be closed.

On Election Day (Tuesday, Nov. 5), voters will head to the polls to vote for Virginia governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, House of Delegates, Alexandria sheriff and Alexandria commonwealth's attorney. Most City of Alexandria government offices will be open on Nov. 4.

If you are looking for information on voting in Alexandria, visit the Office of Voter Registrations and Elections website and our Alexandria voter guide. Residents should note some schools, recreation centers and other key locations are being used as polling places from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Nov. 4.

Here are the closings to know for Election Day:

City of Alexandria government: Most City of Alexandria government offices will be open on Nov. 4.

Alexandria City Public Schools: No school for students on Nov. 4 due to a teacher workday.

Animal Welfare League of Alexandria: Open normally.

Courts: Alexandria General District Court, Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court, Court Service Unit, Circuit Court and the Clerk of Circuit Court will be closed on Nov. 4.

DASH Bus: DASH bus service will operate on a regular schedule on Nov. 4. The King Street Trolley runs daily, every 15 minutes, from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

DMV: Virginia DMV locations are closed on Nov. 4. Over 50 services are available 24/7 online at dmv.virginia.gov.

Hotlines: All emergency hotlines operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, including the Child Protective Services Hotline at 703-746-5800; the Domestic Violence Hotline at 703-746-4911; the Emergency Mental Health Services or substance use crisis hotline at 703-746-3401; the Adult Protective Services hotline at 703-746-5778 or 988; and the Sexual Assault Hotline at 703-683-7273.

Health department: Alexandria Health Department, Flora Krause Casey Health Center, and the Teen Wellness Center will be closed on Nov. 4.

Historic Alexandria facilities: Operating normally on Nov. 4.

Impound lot: Operating normally on Nov. 4.

Library: Alexandria Library is operating normally on Nov. 4.

Recreation, arts and nature centers: Operating normally on Nov. 4, including the Torpedo Factory Art Center.

Trash and recycling: Running normally on Nov. 4.
