ALEXANDRIA, VA — This upcoming Monday, the City of Alexandria will recognize Indigenous Peoples' Day, resulting in various closures and schedule changes.

The city first recognized Indigenous Peoples'Day in 2019, changing it from Columbus Day. Columbus Day still remains a federally observed holiday. To celebrate the holiday, an exhibit unveiling is planned at the Alexandria Archaeology Museum. (105 N. Union Street Unit 327). According to Historic Alexandria, the new exhibit maps current and past Native American tribes and nations and demonstrates how archaeologists learn about the lives of past people by studying changes in stone projectile point technology.

The virtual exhibit unveiling will happen Monday on social media and the museum's website. Visitors can see it in person starting Tuesday.
