When Do Alexandria Pools Open for the Summer?

ALEXANDRIA, VA — Memorial Day is fast approaching and temperatures are starting to heat up. That means it's almost time for the first swim of the season.

Mark your calendars for Saturday, May 27, the start of Memorial Day Weekend and the unofficial start of summer nearly everywhere. That will be opening day for public pools in Alexandria and around the area.

The opening date applies to all public pools, but you will have to check with individual private pools to see when they open.

Below are the public pools and hours for the summer season:

Memorial Pool, Charles Houston Recreation Center: 901 Wythe St.

• May 27 – September 3: Saturdays & Sundays, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.
• May 30 – June 22: Monday – Friday, 4 p.m.-7 p.m.
• June 23 – August 18: Monday – Friday, noon-8 p.m.
• August 21 – September 1: 4 p.m.-7 p.m.
• Holidays: Monday, May 29 Tuesday, July 4 and Monday, September 4: 10 a.m.-6 p.m.
• Extended Season: September 5-8: Monday - Friday, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

Old Town Pool: 1609 Cameron St.

• May 27 – September 10: Saturdays & Sundays, noon-7 p.m.
• May 30 – June 22: Monday – Friday, 4 p.m.-7 p.m.
• June 23 – July 31: Monday – Friday, 6 a.m.-7:30 a.m. (Pass holders only)
• June 23 – July 31: Monday – Friday, noon-8 p.m.
• August 1 – 18: Monday – Friday, noon-7 p.m.
• August 21 – September 1: 4 p.m.-7 p.m.
• September 5 – 8: 6 a.m.-9 a.m. & 4:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m.
• Holidays: Monday, May 29, Tuesday, July 4, and Monday, September 4, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.
• Extended Season: September 5 -8: Monday - Friday 6 a.m.-9 a.m. & 4:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m.

Great Waves Waterpark: 4001 Eisenhower Ave

• May 27 – June 21: Saturdays, Sundays & Holidays (excluding July 4) 11 a.m.-7 p.m.
• May 30 – June 21: Fridays 1 p.m.-7 p.m.
• June 22: noon-7 p.m.
• June 23-September 4: Monday - Friday 11 a.m.-7 p.m.
• July 4: 11 a.m.-6 p.m.

If you can't wait for Memorial Day weekend to head to the pool, indoor pools are always an option.

Warwick Pool is under construction, and the city has not indicated an opening date yet. Find all fees and more information about the pool features and rules on the City of Alexandria's website.
