Where To Get The Cheapest Gas For Labor Day Weekend In Alexandria

Gas prices have fallen over the last month but are significantly more than a year ago.

If you're getting in one last summer trip over Labor Day weekend, perhaps you want to plan ahead and know the more affordable places to fill up your tank. Depending on where you're going, getting gas in Alexandria could be the better option.

Alexandria is on the higher end of the state for gas prices, according to AAA data. The city's average price of $2.895 per gallon for Wednesday, Aug. 29 sits above Fairfax County's $2.854, Falls Church City's $2.807 and Arlington County's $2.791.

Alexandria area prices dropped slightly from $2.910 last month but are higher than last year's $2.432. That doesn't mean there aren't good options in Alexandria going into the holiday weekend. AAA's price map shows prices as low as $2.67 for Wednesday.

Here are the cheapest gas prices in the city:

  • OLD TOWNE LIBERTY: 725 N WASHINGTON ST Alexandria, VA $2.679
  • EXXON: 703 N WASHINGTON ST Alexandria, VA $2.699
  • SHELL: 801 N WASHINGTON ST Alexandria, VA $2.699
  • LIBERTY: 442 N HENRY ST Alexandria, VA $2.739
  • BARBERS AUTO SERVICE: 4368 KING ST Alexandria, VA $2.739
  • EXXON: 501 S WASHINGTON ST Alexandria, VA $2.759
  • SPEEDWAY #2871: 620 S PATRICK ST Alexandria, VA $2.799
  • ALEX BELTWAY LIBERTY: 700 S PATRICK ST Alexandria, VA $2.799

If you're driving elsewhere in Virginia, you'll find prices more in the $2.50 range once you leave the DC region. The average gas price in Northern Virginia is $2.720, up from $2.329 a year ago, according to AAA. Prices in Maryland and DC are higher: $2.788 and $3007, respectively.

Nationwide, gas prices dropped two cents from last month to $2.84, but this is still 48 cents more than this time last year.

"With Labor Day approaching, motorists could see a small swing towards higher gas prices, but any jump should not last past the holiday weekend," said AAA spokesperson Jeanette Casselano in a statement.
