Is Your Child Ready for Kindergarten?

Registration begins Wednesday with open houses at all Alexandria elementary schools.

Kindergarten registration for the 2016-'17 school year in the Alexandria City Public Schools begins with a Special 2016 Registration Kick-off Event from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at all of the city's elementary schools.

All schools will be open during those hours for prospective parents to visit schools and meet the principal and teachers. After Wednesday, please visit your neighborhood school on weekdays between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. to register, or call to make an appointment to register at a different time.

This year, parents will be able to fill out registration forms online starting Wednesday, although it is still necessary to visit your neighborhood school to show proof of identification and address.

Currently, there are two options for focus schools available for families to opt in to by applying for an Administrative Transfer:

  • Jefferson Houston School, International Baccalaureate Program
  • Mount Vernon Community School, Dual Language Program

Jefferson Houston School and Mount Vernon Community School options are based on capacity at these schools. Families can also opt out of Samuel W. Tucker Elementary School. Families who opt out of that school will be placed in another school based on capacity and proximity to the student’s home.
