Duty calls during Petersburg firefighter's swearing-in ceremony (dailydispatch.com) — Petersburg's newest firefighter, Jacob Beville, barely finished his oath before racing out from his swearing‑in ceremony to help battle a car fire spreading to a garage on Willow Way. Video from Petersburg Fire Rescue & Emergency Services shows him grabbing his badge, sprinting to the truck, and jumping straight into his first real call on the job.
4. Tractor trailer fire shuts down Interstate 295 (progress-index.com) — Drivers from Petersburg and nearby communities faced major delays after a tractor-trailer broke down and caught fire on I-295 near Hopewell, shutting all lanes in both directions for hours. State Police reported no injuries, but traffic was expected to be snarled all afternoon. The brief item also notes a separate early-morning Petersburg house fire that injured one person.
