Petersburg Fire & EMS say tight streets and hydrant placement complicated access, but crews quickly contained the blaze to the downstairs while the fire marshal investigates the cause.
   

2. Carriage House Apartments in Petersburg gets new roof 3 months after code violations forced residents out (wtvr.com) — Roofers are finally replacing the long‑troubled roof at Old Towne Petersburg's Carriage House Apartments, about 2½ months after code violations forced more than 100 residents out. City officials say earlier repairs addressed boilers, leaks, and unsanitary conditions, and tenants now hope the new roof will end years of water damage worries.
   

3. Duty calls during Petersburg firefighter's swearing-in ceremony (dailydispatch.com) — Petersburg's newest firefighter, Jacob Beville, barely finished his oath before racing out from his swearing‑in ceremony to help battle a car fire spreading to a garage on Willow Way. Video from Petersburg Fire Rescue & Emergency Services shows him grabbing his badge, sprinting to the truck, and jumping straight into his first real call on the job.
   

4. Tractor trailer fire shuts down Interstate 295 (progress-index.com) — Drivers from Petersburg and nearby communities faced major delays after a tractor-trailer broke down and caught fire on I-295 near Hopewell, shutting all lanes in both directions for hours. State Police reported no injuries, but traffic was expected to be snarled all afternoon. The brief item also notes a separate early-morning Petersburg house fire that injured one person.
   

5. Crater Health District Recognizes Community Health Workers for Building Stronger, Healthier Communities (virginia.gov) — Based in Petersburg, the Crater Health District is spotlighting its community health workers during National Community Health Workers Awareness Week for connecting local families to care, resources, and maternal health support.
