Reston July 4 2017 Fireworks: Weather Forecast, Where To Watch

If you haven't made plans yet for a fireworks show on Independence Day, we've found a few great spots to watch the show in and near Reston.

RESTON, VA — It's that time of year once again, where we gather together as a nation and blow some fireworks up to celebrate our independence declared 241 years ago. But where should you go to watch 4th of July fireworks in Reston in 2017? We've got a few great options for you.

WEATHER UPDATE: The weather forecast is a bit dicey. NBC Washington's Chuck Bell says storms will be a bit more likely south and west of the D.C. Metro area; he says rain is most likely between 2 and 7 p.m., but fireworks should be dry. The National Weather Service calls for scattered showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m. Look for mostly cloudy skies with a high near 93. The chance of precipitation is 40 percent. The chance of scattered rain showers before 2 am creeps up to 50 percent. Skies tonight will be mostly cloudy, with a low around 73.

Lake Fairfax Park -- Fairfax County will be hosting a "Fireworks, Food and Family Fun!" event on the Saturday before the 4th of July at Lake Fairfax Park in Reston. The July 1 event (with a rain date of July 2) will include the opening of the Water Mine Swimming Hole at 10 a.m., boat rentals in the early afternoon, a puppet show, live music into the evening, and a fireworks show at around 9:15 p.m.

Town of Herndon 4th of July Celebration -- Nearby, the town of Herndon will be holding their very own special 4th of July celebration beginning at 6:30 p.m. on the big day. The event is free to everyone and will feature entertainment, arts and crafts, bingo, and family games. There will also be lots of food on sale, like hot dogs, hamburgers, funnel cakes, and ice cream. The fireworks display will begin at around 9:30 p.m. and will be choreographed to music.

Special 4th of July viewing spots in Arlington -- If you're willing to make a 20-30 minute drive to catch the main event in D.C., there's a few prime viewing spots in nearby Arlington County.
