Alcorn Hosts Virtual Town Hall With Fairfax Police Chief

Hunter Mill Supervisor Walter Alcorn is hosting a virtual town hall Wednesday with Fairfax County Police Chief Edwin Roessler.

RESTON, VA — As many in Fairfax County and across the country are calling for greater police accountability, Hunter Mill District residents will have their chance this week to interact with Fairfax County Police Chief Edwin Roessler. Hunter Mill Supervisor Walter Alcorn is hosting a virtual town hall with Roessler Wednesday, from 7-8 p.m.

In recent weeks, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors have taken a number of steps in the aftermath of nationwide protests for racial justice and calls to end police violence.

At its June 9 meeting, the Board unanimously approve a statement of support for those in the county calling for racial justice and to find funding to implement the next phase of the Fairfax County Police Department's body-worn camera program.

Roessler told Patch that he felt "awful" when he saw the video of a Minneapolis police officer kneeling on George Floyd's neck.

"The community is righteous in their anger," he said. "It is my prayers that this country, my 18,000 peers, could use that righteous anger to be more transparent with the communities that they are put in authority to deliver law enforcement services and that they constructively use this anger to make their local police department and this profession better."
