Breastfeeding Wars

It is World Breast Feeding week and in the weeks leading up to the event I have been inundated with pictures, messages and controversy surrounding breastfeeding.  Barraged with questions and headlines like:

Is Princess Kate nursing?

Who would feed their baby formula?

Stop breastfeeding in public!

Breastfeeding is good, formula is bad!

There are so many mothers who are so passionate about this issue, from both sides, and it eludes me as to why.  I am a mother of three who breastfed my children and then switched to formula with my third.  I nursed my first two children literally because it was all I knew, it worked, it was portable and that was that.  My third didn’t work so well and formula was a better option.

Did my third miss out?  NO

Did my third experience more colds, flus, or allergies? NO (she is the only one with NO allergies)

Did my third lack bonding time or feel less attached?  NO

Everyone is fine and what worked for our family worked, it is as simple as that.  Being a mother is so difficult and is filled with uncertainty, mothers are constantly questioning their decisions.  Other mothers don’t need to judge, cast blame or question another’s decision to breastfeed or not.  It is unfair and just not right.  I challenge mothers who feel strongly on both sides of this argument to join the movement to SUPPORT other mothers, no matter what their decision about feeding might be.  To find out more information or how you can get involved, visit:
