Virginia man runs 200 miles to Fairfax to raise awareness of opioid addiction (ffxnow.com) — A Northern Virginia runner just completed a 200-mile “Helene’s Run” from Hampton to his grandmother’s home in Fairfax, honoring his late mother and spotlighting opioid addiction. His effort has already raised over $24,000 for the Fairfax-based Chris Atwood Foundation, specifically funding mobile Narcan distribution in Fairfax City to support local overdose prevention and recovery efforts.
   

2. Leslie Freeman - Worcester County News Bayside Gazette (baysideoc.net) — Family and friends with ties to Fairfax should know that services for Leslie Joan Freeman will be held Nov. 5 at Fairfax Memorial Park, followed by a gathering in Falls Church. The longtime Northern Virginia resident, who once lived in Chantilly, died earlier this month at age 85 after a life centered on family and close friendships.
   

3. SoberRide Returns For Halloween Weekend In The DMV (patch.com) — If you’re celebrating Halloween in Fairfax this weekend, you can tap WRAP’s SoberRide program for a free or discounted Lyft home between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m. Friday and Saturday nights. The offer covers both Fairfax County and the City of Fairfax, aiming to cut drunk-driving crashes during one of the year’s riskiest holidays.

Fairfax County's jobless rate still elevated compared to before Trump's second term (ffxnow.com) — Fairfax County’s unemployment rate sat at 3.4% in September, nearly 28% higher than before Trump’s second term, while the City of Fairfax reached 3.2% with a shrinking workforce. Local joblessness has risen since 2024 even as some residents leave the labor force, mirroring broader Northern Virginia and D.C.-area trends.
