Fairfax County turns to texting in effort to protect area seniors from scams (ffxnow.com) — Fairfax County is launching a new Silver Shield text-alert system to warn seniors about scams and is mailing a major survey to 22,000 older-adult households this month. Local leaders hope the texting tool and survey will better protect Fairfax’s 55+ residents and guide future aging services as the senior population continues to grow.
   

2. Career opportunities available at the 911 call center (annandaletoday.com) — Fairfax County’s 911 call center in the Fair Oaks area is urgently hiring call takers, offering paid training, 12-hour shifts, and starting pay of $27.27 an hour. With 10 vacancies and 1.2 million calls handled each year, county officials are encouraging local residents, from recent graduates to career changers, to consider this high-impact public safety role.
   

3. Best After School Program in Fairfax County (ffxnow.com) — Families in Fairfax County can choose from several standout after-school options, including Fairfax County Public Schools activities, the U.S. Arts Center, and McLean Community Center’s teen program. These programs offer everything from art and athletics to homework help, giving Fairfax kids structured, affordable ways to explore interests beyond the classroom.

Langley High School Teacher Charged With Indecent Liberties (patch.com) — Fairfax County police have charged a Langley High School math teacher with multiple felony counts related to alleged inappropriate contact with a student, and he is being held at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center. Fairfax County Public Schools has placed him on administrative leave, and a preliminary hearing is set for August in Fairfax County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court. Detectives are asking anyone with information to contact Fairfax County Crime Solvers.
   

5. Virginia man gets life in prison for double murder scheme in affair with Brazilian au pair (norwalkreflector.com) — In Fairfax, a Virginia man has been sentenced to life in prison without parole for a double killing tied to an affair with the family’s Brazilian au pair. Prosecutors said he and the au pair lured a man to their Herndon home as part of a scheme to kill his wife, while their young child was present. The au pair received a separate manslaughter sentence after testifying against him.
