Catching more written errors

Sometimes when I read, especially my own writing, my mind will insert words like a, the, and is.  To counter this weakness, I use a text-to-speech site to hear my work.

I find that I can catch more errors listening to the work vice reading (not sure why).  Below is a text-to-speech website I really like, it is free, and no downloads are needed.  Copy-Paste your text into the Text Box, press the "Create Audio File" button at the bottom of the screen, and in a few seconds you’re ready to listen to your work.  You will have to click the triangle "play" button when the screen refreshes.  I have found that the application works better in Firefox versus Microsoft's Internet Explorer.  The different character voices "chunk" the words differently, and they use different inflection points, too.  Moreover, you can hear the work in a man or woman's voice.

Hearing your work read by someone else provides an interesting perspective, which is perfect for improving email communications where the correct tone is sometimes tough to project.
