32 Charges Filed Against DC Man For Vehicle Break-Ins, Thefts

RESTON, VA — A District man faces 32 criminal charges in connection to a series of vehicle break-ins and thefts that took place from May to November across Fairfax County, according to authorities.

With the help of the Fairfax County Police Department's Auto Crime Enforcement Unit, detectives identified Tyrell Ewings, 30, of Washington, D.C., as a suspect in a vehicle tampering case and theft that occurred May 31 in 13600 block of Dulles Technology Drive in the McNair, according to the incident report.

Following further investigation, police linked Ewings to similar crimes at several locations around the county that occurred between May 31 and Nov. 22, the report says.

On Dec. 16, police in Washington, D.C. arrested Ewings on similar charges, according to the report. Following a Dec. 21 extradition, he was taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, where he was charged with 10 counts of vehicle trespass, seven counts of credit card fraud, four counts of card larceny, three counts of ID theft, three counts of larceny by false pretense, two counts of attempted vehicle trespass, two counts of petit larceny, and grand larceny.

He is being held without bond.

Ewings was arraigned Dec. 22 in Fairfax County General District Court and had a bond hearing on Dec. 23, according to court records. He has preliminary hearings scheduled for 9:30 a.m. on Feb. 2 and 2 p.m. on March 16. He remains in custody at the ADC.

In addition, Ewings is scheduled to appear in general district court at 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 13 for failing to appear for an April 22 hearing, according to court documents. Ewings was arrested on Oct. 11, 2024 on a misdemeanor charge of petit larceny in connection to Sept. 9, 2023 incident.
