Dulles Flight Returns Monday Night After Disturbance by Passenger: Reports

Some media reports say man claimed he had a bomb, on flight that was headed to Denver.

A flight out of Washington Dulles International Airport Monday night returned to the airport, due to a disturbance by a passenger on the plane.

The United Airlines flight 1074 was headed to Denver but turned around after an unruly passenger charged the cockpit, according to NBC News and other media outlets.

Airport spokeswoman Kimberly Gibbs, with Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, says that at around 10:40 pm EST on Monday, United flight #1074 bound for Denver returned to Washington Dulles International airport “because of a disturbance onboard. A passenger was removed from the plane and transported to a local hospital for observation.”

The man, whose name was not released, has not been charged, Gibbs said. There was no impact to airport operations, the aircraft continued on to Denver but the passengers were rebooked by the airline, she noted.

A passenger told NBC News that the disruptive flyer who claimed he had a bomb and was tackled by other passengers after an apparent attempt to reach the cockpit.

The United Airlines Boeing 737, carrying 33 passengers and six crew members, returned to the airport Monday night at about 10:40 p.m., according to the New York Daily News.

Local law enforcement met the plane and transported the passenger to a local hospital for evaluation, Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority told NBC News. MWAA manages both Dulles and Reagan National Airports.
