Artist's Reception - Lake Anne RCC Rose Gallery

The abstract paintings of Mary Rainey-Medlin will be on exhibit through the month of August at the Jo Ann Rose Gallery at the Reston Community Center at Lake Anne Plaza.

"Mary's 25 years as a geophysicist traveling throughout the world gave her a unique way of looking at the creation of art:  'As a geologist I studied the elements of form -- line, composition and color -- but now, through art, I express the emotional impact of these elements differently in mature and organized ways.'  When Mary first came to Reston 12 years ago, a friend convinced her to take a drawing class at RCC.  With the encouragement of teachers and her peers, she has developed into a working artist.   Mary feels that the quality of the teaching staff and the variety of art mediums offered by RCC "gave me a chance to experiment extensively until I found my own style."  On display in this exhibit is an abstract style that is often ethereal; many of her pieces have soft pastel colors with edges that meld into each other.  Others are more vibrant, but still within the ethereal realm."

An artist's reception will be held on Sunday, August 7 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
