Fairfax County Gov't Offices, Services Impacted By Friday's Snowstorm
Fairfax County has modified its operating status due to Friday's winter storm, affecting many county services and community events.

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA — Fairfax County government offices are closed on Friday due to the due to the winter storm that's moving through Northern Virginia. The closings will affect some county services.
Fairfax County employees have been granted administrative on Friday. However, emergency personnel are expected to report to work as scheduled.
Friday's closures in Fairfax include Circuit Court, General District Court, and Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court.

All Fairfax County Public Schools schools and offices are also closed on Friday. When the school system is closed, all schools, administrative offices and community activities are canceled, including athletic practices and events.
Federal offices in the Washington, D.C. region will be opening two hours later than normally scheduled, according to the Office of Personnel Management. All federal employees will have a two-hour delayed arrival on Friday, with an option for unscheduled leave or unscheduled telework.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for Fairfax County, with an expected snowfall of 1 to 3 inches beginning at 4 a.m. Friday and lasting throughout the day. Up to 5 inches of snow is possible in some areas of the county.
The new storm will bring widespread snow, especially Friday morning. Total snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches are expected north of US-50 and Interstate 66, and areas to the south could get 1 inch on Friday. Residents should plan on slippery road conditions that will affect the morning commute, the NWS said.

The Arctic air coming in behind the storm over the weekend will likely deliver the lowest temperatures of the winter so far in the mid-Atlantic region, AccuWeather said.
"Saturday is raw, with gusty winds and temperatures struggling to reach the low to mid-20s despite mainly clear skies," the Capital Weather Gang said. "Another cold night is on tap, with lows ranging through the teens."
