Fairfax County School Board Election Results: How Reston Voted

The Hunter Mill District had the largest turnout of any district in the county. Here's how you voted.

RESTON, VA — All the ballots are in for the special election to fill a seat on the Fairfax County School Board, and Democrat Karen A. Keya-Gamarra cruised to an easy victory over Republican challenger Chris S. Grisafe.

Keya-Gamarra earned 41,519 votes in the county to 21,389 for Grisafe. Michael H. Owens earned 1,346 votes and Sandra D. Allen received 719.

In the Hunter Mill District, which includes Reston and Herndon, Keya-Gamarra's win was even more pronounced. She received 6,220 votes to Grisafe's 2,208 -- nearly triple his vote total -- with Owens getting 140 and Allen 52.

A total of 12 percent of eligible voters turned out in the district to vote, which was better than the county average of 10.4 percent. A total of 9,893 votes were cast in the Hunter Mill District, the most in the entire county, edging out Braddock and Springfield which saw 9,547 and 9,542, respectively, turn out to the polls.

Hunter Mill also had the most in-person voters, with 8,669 showing up on election day. Hunter Mill has the largest active registered voter base in the county at 82,225.
