Fairfax Supervisors Vote To Reconsider Fannie Mae Project Proposal
Fairfax County Board of Supervisors voted to expedite the reconsideration of a proposal for the former Fannie Mae property in Reston.

RESTON, VA — Fairfax County Board of Supervisors approved a motion at its meeting on Tuesday to expedite a public hearing on a proposal to redevelop the Fannie Mae property in Reston that the board had previously approved on Aug. 2, 2022.
The board's original approval was nullified after the applicant, WS-ADW Owner LLC, missed a payment deadline as part of its buyout obligations within the Dulles Rail Tax District.
"Due to the unique circumstances of the application and the fact that site plans to implement the project have been under review for several months, the applicant has requested an expedited public hearing date before the Board, as well as concurrent processing for the site plans," said Hunter Mill District Supervisor Walter Alcorn, who introduced the board matter on Tuesday.

WS-ADW Owner LLC originally submitted its application in November 2020 to redevelop the former home of Fannie Mae located at American Dream Way, near Sunset Hills Road and Old Reston Avenue.
After more than two years of public review and a recommendation for approval by the Fairfax County Planning Commission, the board approved the rezoning application to allow the applicant to develop the property with townhouses rather than another high-rise office building on the site.

The property currently includes a nine-story building, which Fannie Mae has since been vacated. That building will remain, but the applicant plans to add 74 townhouses, eight stacked townhomes and 18 acres of green space, including 1.5 miles of new trails.
The proposal that board members will be voting on will be the same as the one they approved last August.
