Fairfax County Fire Chief Butler Names New Director Of Human Resources
Damitra Gardner was named the director of human resources for the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department.

Fire Chief John Butler is pleased to announce Damitra Gardner has been named Director of Human Resources for the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department, effective September 9, 2023.

In 2001, Ms. Gardner began career with the Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) as family service advocate. This led her to discover her passion for training and helping others through advocacy. In 2006, she transferred to the FCPS Human Resources’ Benefits Section as business operations assistant. Ms. Gardner was promoted in 2007 to a business technical specialist for the Disability and Leaves programs. In her tenure with the school system, she presented multiple topics on the systems leave options. In 2017, she transferred from FCPS to the Fairfax County Sheriff’s Office Human Resource Section as the Payroll Supervisor. Ms. Gardner was promoted to HR Generalist II for the Department of Public Safety Communications in 2020. Shortly after, she was promoted to serve as DPSC’s HR Manager in the Department of Public Safety Communications.
Ms. Gardner graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business Management and Master of Business Administration with a concentration in Human Resources from the University of Phoenix. In 2018, she earned a Society of Human Resources Management (SHRM) certification. Ms. Gardner is also a member of the DC SHRM Chapter and the University of Phoenix National Society of Leadership and Success.
