Glenn Small Resigns From RA Board, Adding 5th Opening On March Ballot
Glenn Small emailed his colleagues on the Reston Association Board of Directors on Monday saying that he was stepping down.

RESTON, VA — The makeup of the Reston Association Board of Directors in 2022 continues to resemble a game of musical chairs.
On Monday afternoon, Glenn Small sent an email to his board colleagues and RA CEO Mac Cummins that he was stepping down immediately as an at-large member. Patch reached out to Small on Tuesday, who confirmed that he had resigned.

"This RA board service was always a 'stretch assignment,' both in terms of bandwidth and association board experience," Small said, in his email to the board. "I had only the desire to see if I could be helpful and to bring an outsider perspective. I think I’ve learned a lot and could be helpful going forward, but in looking at my personal and professional commitments, I’m not able to continue as a board member."
Small was one of three new members elected to the board in March. A day after he joined Irwin Flashman (Lake Anne/Tall Oaks) and Laurie Dodd (North Point) as new board members in April, At-Large Member Tim Dowling submitted his letter of resignation to outgoing RA President Caren Anton.

Then, on the same day in May that the board tapped John Farrell to fill Dowling's vacant seat until April 2023, Anton submitted her own letter of resignation to the board.
Four candidates vied for Anton's seat during the board's June 24 meeting, with Margaret Perry being chosen to represent the Hunters Woods/Dogwood community through the March 2023 election.
With Small's resignation, the board will likely put out a call for candidates at its next regular meeting on Dec. 15. They would then chose someone at the board's January meeting to fill Smith's seat until April, when the new board is sworn in.
On Nov. 11, RA issued a call out for candidates to fill the following four seats:
- At-Large Director (3-year term)
- At-Large Director (1-year term)
- Hunters Woods/Dogwood District Director (3-year term)
- Apartment Owner’s Representative (3-year term)
Small's departure creates a fifth vacancy on the board that will need to be filled to finish the remaining two years of his term as an at-large board member. With five seats to be filled, a new majority of the nine-member board will be sworn in next April, provided at least five candidates sign up to run in the March election.
More information is available online about how to become a candidate for the RA Board. Candidacy forms must be submitted by 5 p.m. on Jan. 27. An election information session is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Jan. 17 to provide additional details. Questions may be submitted to electionscommittee@reston.org.
