Greater Reston Arts Center Inaugural 5K GRACE Race Saturday

Lace up your running shoes, the Greater Reston Arts Center (GRACE) will present its inaugural 5K GRACE Race on Saturday. The established 5K course begins at the Pavilion in Reston Town Center, continues on the Washington and Old Dominion Trail, and finishes back at the Pavilion. Here’s the scoop:

• When: Saturday, October 25, 2014/Time: 8:30 a.m. 5K race, 9:30 a.m. Kids’ Dash
• Where: Reston Town Center
• What: Timed 5K (art-inspired costumes optional!) with prizes for top finishers and best costumes

The 8:30 a.m. 5K race is an official timed event on a certified course, and both runners and walkers are welcome. A pre-race warm-up will be held at the Pavilion at 8 a.m., led by fitness experts from Athleta and CRUNCH Fitness.

The 5K will begin at 8:30 am, and will be followed by a Kid’s Dash in Reston Town Center at 9:30 a.m. Art-inspired costumes are encouraged for both the 5K and the Dash.

In addition to light, post-race refreshments provided by Whole Foods Market Reston, there will be free family art activities sponsored by GRACE at the Pavilion from 8:30 to 11 am.

The GRACE Race benefits the educational and outreach programs of the Greater Reston Arts Center (GRACE).

Participants can make it a full day of culture and fun with Reston Town Center’s annual Trick-or-Treating event for kids, beginning at 11 a.m., and then enjoy the Washington West Film Festival’s afternoon screenings at Town Center’s Bowtie Cinema (www.wwfilmfest.com).

All runners will receive a T-shirt; a CRUNCH Fitness cinch sack (first 500 registrants only); a race-day coupon for 20% off all day at Il Fornaio, Mon Ami Gabi, Big Bowl, and Tavern 64; $5 off a GRACE Membership card (which provides a 20% discount at the restaurants noted above all year long); an Athleta hair tie and entry into a race-day drawing for a $250 Athleta shopping spree; and 20 percent off tickets to daytime screenings that weekend of the Washington West Film Festival in Town Center.

Prizes will be awarded as follows: Grand prizes for the top overall male and top female finisher (including a six-month free trial membership at CRUNCH, and a $50 gift card to Reston Town Center); and prizes for the top male and female runners in each of six age groups (including a three-month free trial membership at CRUNCH and a $50 Reston Town Center gift card); as well as prizes for the top three creative costumes ($50 Reston Town Center gift cards). All kids participating in the Dash will receive a token prize for finishing.
