Bought Generic Drugs In VA? You Could Be Owed Money

Virginians who bought certain generic prescription drugs between May 2009 and December 2019 could be eligible for money from settlements totaling about $96.5 million.

Consumers are encouraged to check whether the medications they purchased are included in the settlements and to submit a claim if they qualify. The settlements involve generic drug manufacturers Glenmark, Lannett, Bausch, Apotex, Heritage and Heritage's parent company, Emcure.

The settlements stem from claims by Virginia and dozens of other states and territories that drug manufacturers colluded to raise the prices of certain generic medications.

Who Could Get Money?

Consumers may qualify if they purchased one of the generic drugs covered by the settlements between May 2009 and December 2019.

The U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut this month gave preliminary approval to a plan for distributing settlement money to eligible consumers.

The settlements are part of a broader series of cases brought by states over alleged price-fixing in the generic drug industry. Those cases date to 2016 and involve numerous drug manufacturers, executives and medications.

Additional cases remain pending, including allegations involving dozens of topical generic medications.
