Huge Crane In Reston To Be Taken Down

The crane that is currently towering over the Reston Town Center Metrorail station will be dismantled starting June 2.

RESTON, VA — Workers will dismantle a tower crane at Reston Town Center Metrorail station in early June, according to a statement from the Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project.

From Friday, June 2 through Monday, June 5, DCMP crews will remove the crane from the median of the Dulles International Airport Access Highway between the Fairfax County Parkway overpass and the Reston Parkway overpass.

The work will take place during both the day and night hours, from 9 p.m. June 2 until 5 a.m. June 5.

During that time, the following traffic impacts will be in effect:

Friday, June 2, 9 p.m. to June 5, 5 a.m.

  • Eastbound DIAAH traffic between mile markers 4.0 and 5.1 will be diverted to the left lane of the eastbound Dulles Toll Road (DTR).
  • Eastbound DIAAH traffic to the Fairfax County Parkway will be diverted to the Dulles Toll Road at mile markers 1.8 and 2.7. Signage will be in place to inform drivers.
  • Eastbound DIAAH traffic to the Reston Parkway will be diverted to the Dulles Toll Road at mile marker 1.8. Signage will be in place to inform drivers.
  • Eastbound DTR traffic will be restricted to the two right lanes.
  • Eastbound DIAAH traffic will return to the DIAAH at mile marker 5.1, just prior to the Reston Parkway overpass and all lanes will be restored for eastbound DTR use.

Saturday, June 3, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

  • Left lane of westbound DIAAH between mile markers 5.1 and 4.0 will be closed.

Sunday, June 4, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

  • Left lane of westbound DIAAH between mile markers 5.1 and 4.0 will be closed.
