Ideaventions Academy Student Honored With National Hispanic Award
John Heitz, a rising senior at Ideaventions Academy for Mathematics and Science in Reston, recently received the National Hispanic Award.

RESTON, VA — John Heitz, a rising senior at Ideaventions Academy for Mathematics and Science in Reston, was recently honored by the National Hispanic Award Recognition Program.
Each year, only 5,000 Hispanic/Latino high school juniors out of the 400,000 students across the county who take the PSAT are recognized with the National Hispanic Award, which is administered by the College Board in collaboration with the Hispanic Scholarship Fund.
At Ideaventions Academy, Heitz has excelled academically, having taken 17 college-level courses in four years. In college, he's interested in double-majoring in economics and theater.

"Any college would be lucky to have him as a part of their student body, as we have been here. He is a community supercharger, independent thinker, team player, and leader," according to an Ideaventions Academy release.
Heitz has been a standout in areas beyond academics as well, including producing and directing the school's fall student-run theater production of “The One-Act Play That Goes Wrong” and performing in George Mason University's Acting For Young People program. He also was the president of the STEM Student Leadership Association

With the start of the new school year, Ideaventions Academy, where he served as a camp counselor over the summer.
Although Heitz was born in Reston, his mother immigrated with his mother from Venezuela. One of the things he enjoys the most is meeting new family members, many of whom live in Venezuela.
