Litter Bugs Beware: Reston DNA Tech Company on the Case

A Reston company is helping catch litter bugs in Hong Kong, Fairfax County E-Bird points out Tuesday.

“More than 16,000 tons of waste is dumped in Hong Kong streets and public spaces daily,” the E-Bird says.
Parabon NanoLabs, a DNA tech firm headquartered in Reston, on Roger Bacon Drive, is using its know-how to help nab criminals to “create DNA-based composites of litterbugs based on genetic material left with the discarded trash.”

Posters of perpetrators will go up across Hong Kong and online, according to a story by Jeff Beer for Fast Company. “So give a hoot, don’t pollute or, y’know, your own DNA might rat you out,” Beer says.
