Major Road Project In Reston Upcoming

Local officials have announced a date for a community meeting to discuss big changes in the Hunter Mill District.

RESTON, VA -- Local officials are planning a major road project in the Reston area -- so big, in fact, that they will be holding a community meeting in a couple weeks to discuss it.

The Virginia Department of Transportation and Fairfax County Department of Transportation will host a community information meeting on Monday, March 19 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the cafeteria of Terraset Elementary School at 11411 Ridge Heights Road in Reston.

"The meeting provides residents with an opportunity to speak directly with road engineers and transportation planners about the paving program, proposed striping changes and general traffic safety concerns," according to a statement from Fairfax County. "Information about paving and restriping in the Hunter Mill District will be on display in an open house format, with a presentation at 7:15 p.m."

VDOT has scheduled dozens of roads in the Hunter Mill District for repaving this year. The paving will begin in April and conclude in November, assuming everything stays on schedule.

"Residents can expect work vehicles in their neighborhood during the project," the county website states. "Motorists are asked to be alert to temporary traffic patterns. Cars, basketball hoops or garbage cans may need to be temporarily relocated while work is under way. Work hours are usually limited to outside of rush hours. Crews typically work on neighborhood streets weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. On other roads such as interstates and some primaries, work may occur overnight."
