“There Will Be No Bargain” is a giclee on canvas, and was meant for release in a larger edition, but Alvin passed away shortly after the announcement of the new image. John Alvin was one of the foremost movie campaign artists of all time. He worked on more than 250 movie campaigns, and among his accomplishments, he is credited with posters promoting: E.T., Blade Runner, The Lion King, Young Frankenstein, Star Wars Concert Poster, 10th Anniversary Star Wars, The Little Mermaid, and Beauty and the Beast.
ArtInsights Animation and Film Art Gallery exclusively represents Alvin’s originals and his entire artistic estate; his art has become even more popular after his wife and partner Andrea Alvin published The Art of John Alvin.
While ArtInsights always has an assortment of official Star Wars art, the gallery currently is displaying a special exhibit of Star Wars art in honor of the most recent Star Wars Celebration, which took place in April.
John Alvin had created several of the official posters in the convention’s history, including the inaugural gathering Celebration 1. The Reston show runs through Monday, and includes original art for the Celebration 1 poster, concept art for Return of the Jedi when it was titled “Revenge of the Jedi,” as well as art for the Star Wars Concert Poster from 1978.
