Northam Destroys Gillespie In Reston, Herndon

Northam was always going to beat Gillespie in this area, but the voting was exceptionally one-sided.

RESTON/HERNDON, VA -- Newly-elected Virginia Governor Ralph Northam led the Democratic Party to a sweeping victory in the state, capturing the attention of a nation and scoring a huge win for a party thirsting for something to hang their hat on after President Trump's surprise election victory a year ago. In Reston and Herndon in particular, Northam's margin of victory was truly staggering.

Despite polls showing Republican Ed Gillespie narrowing the race to a nail-biter of two or three points in the final days of the campaign, Northam cruised to an easy victory, beating Gillespie by nearly nine points (53.9 to 45 percent).

His win was made possible by his performance in Northern Virginia, where he enjoyed significant support, and Reston and Herndon were no exception. Northam achieved his largest margin of victory here in the Reston 3 precinct -- the Lake Anne neighborhood -- where he scored a staggering 83 percent of the vote (1,011 votes), compared to just 16 percent for Gillespie (190 votes).
