Police: SunTrust Bank Robbed Monday Afternoon
Suspect hit bank inside Safeway store about 5 p.m. It's the third Reston bank robbery since Nov. 26.

The SunTrust bank inside a Safeway store was robbed Monday, according to Fairfax County Police. This makes the third bank robbery in Reston since Nov. 26. Another bank in Reston was robbed last Wednesday.
The incident Monday took place in Hunters Woods Plaza.
A suspect demanded money from an employee, took cash and fled, police said. There were no injuries. The suspect was described as black, in his 30s, and about 5 feet 8 inches tall.

Police have not said whether they believe the Reston bank robberies are related or related to other robberies in Northern Virginia. The suspect in yesterday’s robbery was wearing a red jacket with black stripes; a suspect in a recent McLean bank robbery was wearing a red jacket with gray stripes and a suspect in a Nov. 14 robbery in Annandale was wearing a red ski jacket with black stripes.
The FBI noted in a news release Monday that the Northern Virginia area has seen 13 bank robberies since Oct. 31; with yesterday’s bank robbery in Reston, that brings the number to 14.

Of the 14, authorities believe one suspect committed four of them in the Alexandria and Annandale area; another suspect is believed to have committed two of them, one in Arlington and another in Old Town Alexandria.
