Reston Community Players Receives 42 WATCH Award Nominations

Five productions from the Reston Community Players received a total of 42 WATCH Award nominations for 2020/2022 performances.

RESTON, VA — When the nominations for the 2022 Washington Area Theatre Community Honors (WATCH) Awards were announced on Sunday, the Reston Community Players received the second highest number of nominations of the 27 community theater companies participating.

RCP received a total of 42 nominations, which was second only to the 52 received by the Little Theatre of Alexandria.

"We are so honored to have been nominated for our shows from 2022, but so excited that WATCH let shows from the first two to three months before COVID," said RCP President Joey Olson. "These nominations were truly a team effort as all our eligible shows got nominations."

Each year, WATCH presents awards recognizing outstanding artistic and technical achievements in community theater in the Washington, D.C. region.

For this year's awards, WATCH drew its nominations from 98 productions — 38 musicals and 60 plays — from the combined 2020/2022 performance seasons. A list of all the nominations is available online.

The WATCH Awards will be presented Sunday, March 19, at 7 p.m., during a ceremony at the Birchmere, which is located at 3701 Mount Vernon Ave. in Alexandria. Tickets are available for $20 via Ticketmaster or at the Birchmere box office.

Five of RCP's productions received nominations, the musicals "A Little Night Music" and "Bright Star," and the plays "The Diary of Anne Frank" and "The Game's Afoot."
