Reston Open House To Focus On Lake Fairfax Business Center Redevelopment Plan
Fairfax County will hold a June 22 open house on proposed changes for Lake Fairfax Business Center in Reston.

RESTON, VA — Fairfax County residents will have a chance next week to learn more about a proposed Comprehensive Plan amendment that could allow mixed-use redevelopment at Lake Fairfax Business Center.
The community open house is scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday, June 22, at Homewood Suites in Lake Fairfax Business Center, 1735 Business Center Drive in Reston, according to Fairfax County. The meeting will focus on Plan Amendment SSPA 2023-III-9UP, which applies to the Lake Fairfax Business Center.
Lake Fairfax Business Center is a 73-acre suburban-style office park made up of 13 parcels north of Sunset Hills Road and south of Lake Fairfax Park, according to the county. The property is in the Hunter Mill Supervisor District and the Upper Potomac Planning District.

Plan Could Add Residential Uses
The county’s adopted Comprehensive Plan for the area currently recommends office, industrial and institutional uses up to 0.5 floor area ratio, or FAR. The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors has asked staff to consider a mix of uses for the site, including multifamily and attached residential, retail and office uses.
According to the county’s open house flyer, the proposed amendment would add an option for mixed-use redevelopment, including residential uses. The amendment would also include recommendations related to transportation improvements, environmental protection, neighborhood transitions and connections to nearby recreational amenities.

County staff will provide information about the proposed Comprehensive Plan amendment during the meeting. EYA will also be available to discuss a concurrent rezoning application, RZ-2025-HM-00002, and a conceptual development proposal, according to the flyer.
Public Hearings Scheduled
The June 22 meeting will give residents an opportunity to ask questions and provide feedback before the proposal moves to public hearings.
A Planning Commission public hearing is scheduled for Thursday, July 16. A Board of Supervisors public hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 25, at 4 p.m., according to the county.
The Lake Fairfax Business Center nomination was part of a broader Reston Transit Station Area Comprehensive Plan amendment effort authorized by the Board of Supervisors in April 2023. The amendment was reauthorized and moved to Tier 1 on the county’s work program in July 2023.
