RESTON, VA — Fairfax County Board of Supervisors approved the transfer of a portion of Edmund Halley Drive in Reston to the Secondary System of State Highways. The resolution was adopted unanimously during the board's regular Tuesday meeting.

Fairfax County Department of Transportation (FCDOT) requested the transfer of a section of the road to state control as part of the completion of Phase 2 of the Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project. The road will eventually allow access from Sunrise Valley Drive to the future Reston Town Center Metrorail Station.

Prior to FCDOT's request, a number of improvements were made to the road. These included adding bike lanes, a trail and a sidewalk in order to meet the Fairfax County Comprehensive Plan requirements. In addition, the road was widened to bring it up to Virginia Department of Transportation standards for street acceptance.
