Reston Town Center North Redevelopment Town Hall Set For June 16
Fairfax County will host a June 16 town hall on the Reston Town Center North redevelopment proposal.

RESTON, VA — Hunter Mill District Supervisor Walter Alcorn (D) will host a town hall Tuesday on the proposed redevelopment of Reston Town Center North, a 47-acre site near Reston Town Center.
The meeting will take place at 6:30 p.m. at the North County Governmental Center, 1801 Cameron Glen Dr. in Reston. Inova and Fairfax County staff are expected to provide an overview of the joint rezoning proposal and answer questions from the public.
The site is bounded by Baron Cameron Drive, Fountain Drive, Town Center Parkway and New Dominion Parkway. The redevelopment proposal includes housing, a new Reston Regional Library, a new Embry Rucker Shelter, a future recreation center, athletic field, elementary school, central green and other public facilities.

“This meeting is your chance to learn more, get updates on this project since my town hall last year and understand what comes next,” Alcorn said in a release. “Notably, this project plans to deliver the much-anticipated new Reston Regional Library and Embry Rucker Shelter by 2029.”
The initial rezoning proposal would establish a layout for nine new blocks, including a street grid, streetscapes and a central green. Future rezoning applications would still be required for specific building uses, according to Fairfax County.

The proposal includes 10 acres of open space, including a 3.5-acre central public park. County officials said the central green was designed with feedback from more than 380 community survey responses and is expected to include an event plaza, large lawns, shaded walkways, restrooms and space for a bikeshare station when fully built out.
Five blocks would be designated for public facilities. Plans call for a new Reston Regional Library, a new Embry Rucker Shelter, the relocated North County Human Services Building, and future sites for an elementary school, recreation center and athletic field.

Inova plans to build up to 1,000 residential units across three blocks along Fountain Drive. The plan also allows for townhomes, multifamily housing and up to 150,000 square feet of optional medical, retail or office space.
If approved, the rezoning would set up a future land swap between Fairfax County and Inova. The county said the two currently own a patchwork of properties across the site, and the land exchange would allow for a more coordinated redevelopment plan.
The Fairfax County Planning Commission is scheduled to hold a public hearing on the rezoning application on July 22. The Board of Supervisors is expected to hold its public hearing on Sept. 15.
