Reston White Christmas Update: Morning Flurries

Temperatures are still expected to take a sharp dive in time for Christmas, and snowflakes appear likely in the morning.

A White Christmas remains unlikely in Reston, but the cold snap and some precipitation means snowflakes are likely to be flying when you get up Christmas morning to open presents.

It'll be pretty warm in the D.C. region up until then, with temperatures in the 50s and even near 60 into this weekend.

Expect temperatures to take a sudden dive as an Arctic chill rolls into town on Christmas morning.

"The next Arctic surge arrives promptly Christmas morning and, while not likely to be a white one, a few snowflakes could fly by to brighten the mood," according to a Thursday report from the Washington Post's Capital Weather Gang.

Friday will be pretty cloudy with highs in the low to mid 50s, and rain will enter the forecast on Saturday while temperatures will remain in the 50s.

Sunday is when temperatures will begin to take a dip, but highs will still be in the upper 40s to lower 50s. You won't see much of the sun, with overcast skies expected.

While chances of snow accumulation on Christmas remain slim, CWG has raised their snow potential index to 2/10: "Snowflakes are possible with the Arctic cold front early Christmas Day but accumulation will be hard to achieve. Another flake chance a few days later."
