Reston Woman Sues After Getting Fired At Dulles Airport: Report

The woman claims she was fired after attending a strike for higher wages.

RESTON, VA — A 67-year-old woman in Reston has sued Dulles International Airport after she was fired in December for attending a rally in favor of raising wages for airport workers, according to a report.

WUSA9 reports that Swartha Tujare, an Indian immigrant who now lives in Reston, is being represented by the National Labor Relations Board, which charged her employer -- Huntleigh USA -- with firing her for going on a "lawful" strike and demanded $8,000 in lost wages.

Tujare was not able to work at another airport for months because the company took her airport ID badge, resulting in her falling further behind on bills when she was already struggling financially because of her low wages, the report states.

Her firing came before the board of directors for the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority approved a raise earlier this year to around 5,000 employees, many of whom were making just $7.25 per hour.
