Reston's Lake Anne Village Center Placed On The National Register Of Historic Places
The Lake Anne Village Center Historic District was a big part of Robert Simon's vision for Reston.

RESTON, VA — The Lake Anne Village Center Historic District has just gotten a huge honor, as the National Park Service has placed it on the National Register of Historic Places.
The National Register is a listing of buildings, structures, sites, districts, and objects that are determined to have historic significance to the United States. It was created in 1966 and is maintained by the National Park Service.
The Virginia Department of Historic Resources included the Lake Anne Village Center Historic District on its Virginia Landmarks Register in March, and they forwarded their nomination to the NPS for consideration for the National Register. On June 5, the National Register announced the listing of the village center, which has been a Fairfax County Historic District since 1983.

Lake Anne Village Center was constructed between 1963 and 1967, and was the first village of the planned community of Reston founded by Robert Simon.
"As the first village of the planned community of Reston, Virginia, it is part of the nation’s first zoned planned unit community," reads a statement from the Reston Historic Trust and Museum. "Additionally, it is socially significant because it articulates its founder’s seven goals, as well as Mr. Simon’s insistence on an integrated community in the Commonwealth of Virginia prior to the Civil Rights Act of 1964."
