Reston's Water Mine Sets New Attendance Record After Expansion

It took one hour for the newly expanded park to reach capacity when the new amenities debuted on Aug. 1.

One week after its grand opening, the $5 million expansion at the Water Mine Family Swimmin’ Hole at Lake Fairfax Park is officially a hit.

The Fairfax County Park Authority reported Friday that the water park reached its capacity and broke its own attendance record within one hour of the expanded park’s debut last Saturday, Aug. 1.

The previous attendance record was reportedly set in 1997, the park’s inaugural year.

The expansion was meant to not only increase the park’s capacity but to incorporate more attractions that suited a wider audience, including both families young kids as well as teens. Among the additions were climbable play structures, three new body flume tower slides and additional changing rooms.

More play structures, individual cabanas, shaded seating areas and mobile food vendors are in the works for further expansion in 2016.
