The Roanoke Times reported on the second largest solar installation in the state--1.6 MW on a capped landfill in Salem. The system will generate roughly 10 percent of the energy used by the Veterans Affairs Medical Center and save the center about $160,000 a year in the cost of providing power to a campus that includes more than 20 buildings that are connected by enclosed walkway

Virginia’s largest solar project is a 2,100-kilowatt system at the Norfolk Naval Station. Another VA hospital, in Alexandria will soon complete a 1,955-kilowatt system. Nationwide, the Department of Veterans Affairs is aiming to increase its renewable energy use to 15 percent of its total power consumption this year. This is all exciting news. I’m wondering were Reston is in all this? Aren’t we the planned community in VA with the vision for a livable future?
