Significant Snowfall Possible Later This Week In Reston
While we're not likely to get more than a few snowflakes on Christmas, our snow chances increase dramatically toward New Year's Day.

A White Christmas is not really a possibility at this point, but this coming week could be a different story.
We could get a few overnight snowflakes tonight and into Christmas morning, but not enough for any accumulation in the D.C. area. However, we're going to have much better chances of some significant snowfall as the week goes on, according to the Washington Post's Capital Weather Gang.
A particularly cold period will hit our area starting Dec. 28 and lasting through New Year's Day, and that brings with it increased changes of some snow.

CWG says air in Canada is "extremely cold," about 20 degrees colder than normal, and a high pressure system could cause cold air to become trapped in our region due to the mountains. As a result, even the highs will be below freezing, with temps even dropping into the teens on Dec. 31 and Jan. 1.
But, of course, we'll need precipitation in order to get snow. Right now, the forecast remains very uncertain this far out. But if we do get any storms over that rather extended period of extreme cold -- and there are definitely some emerging possibilities for that, CWG says -- there's a good chance we get some accumulating snow.
