Backed by the stellar goaltending of Senior Caitlyn Maginniss, and an outburst of goals from fellow Senior Megan Greatorex, the Seahawks got back to their winning ways by defeating the Dominion Titans on Monday night in Reston.

Maginniss had ten saves, many of the spectacular nature, and Greatorex tallied eight goals to lead the Seahawks as they rebounded from a heart-breaking one goal loss to cross-town rival Herndon. South Lakes started the scoring with a goal by Junior Emma Rygiel from a pin-point assist from Sophomore midfielder Taylor Newman-Farr. Greatorex made the first of her goals by controlling the draw and charging down the field to score. Rygiel scored her second of the game and Junior Caroline Beaulac scored her first of the seasons off a second dime from Newman-Farr.

The Seahawks were off and running to a quick 6-2 lead with a few minutes left in the half. The defense led by Seniors Leah Duffy, Nicole Salvatore, and Ebony Mitchell-Goodfellow kept the Titans away from their goal with quick-footed, hustling play. When the Titans did manage a shot, Maginniss was there to make the save. However, Dominion fought back before half scoring 3 quick goals to close the gap to two goals, trailing 7-5.

The second half began with swift Freshman defender Jesse Lynch controlling the draw, leading to another goal by Greatorex. The Seahawks kept possession of the ball throughout the half with all-around players Seniors Gabrielle Parisi and Katie Thomas running down every ground ball and hustling back on defense to stymie the Titans. The Titans kept the game close, crawling to within 9-6 with five minutes left. The Seahawks, led by the dandy stick work of Junior Kristina Woodward, then began to control the ball in the air to wind down the minutes off of the clock. The scoring was capped off by Rygiel’s third goal for a hat-trick for a convincing 12-6 victory.
